In 2006, Helen Mirren played the character of Elizabeth II in "The Queen“. The story takes place in 1997, when the news of Lady Diana’s untimely death reached Buckingham Palace. Even though the whole nation grieved for the popular mother of two, the Royal Palace, especially the Queen, were reluctant with their statements and the Elizabeth II refused to grieve in public. For her role, Helen Mirren was honored with an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award – they were both well-deserved!
