Michael Landon had already had a pretty successful career before playing "Johnathan Smith" in "Highway to Heaven". He had roles in shows like "Little House of the Prarie" and "Bonanza". Sadly, due to his heavy drinking and smoking, he died of pancreatic cancer in 1991 in Malibu, California.
