"Captain Trapper John McIntyre" was captain of the 4077th Unit. "Trapper" was actually supposed to return for the fourth season of the show, but abruptly changed his mind due to the fact that he thought his character was of minor importance in comparison to Alda's character, "Hawkeye Pierce".
