Richard Gere was already a well-known actor when he was cast in "Pretty Woman". After his role as "Edward Lewis", he appeared in numerous other films like "Sommersby", "Chicago" and "Shall We Dance?", to name just a few. He is a practicing Tibetan Buddhist of the Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism and an active supporter of the Dalai Lama.
