Nicole's story starts off as a tragic one. She was born the daughter of musician Peter Michael Escovedo, who played in one of Lionel Richie's backing bands. As her father was an alcoholic and drug addict at that time, Lionel Richie started looking after Nicole when she was just three. He officially adopted her when she was six years old.
