Nick Wechsler played "Kyle Valenti" during the show's lifespan. "Kyle" and "Liz" are a couple at the beginning of the series, but as "Liz" meets "Max" at some point, and "Kyle" eventually breaks up with her which leads to a bitter feud between "Max and "Kyle". The two do actually become friends after a while.
