"Cliff Barnes" is the biggest competitor of "J.R.". He is the son of the co-founder of the company "Ewing Oil", "Digger Barnes". He fights every decision made by "J.R." and constantly tries to get revenge for what "Jock" did to his father many years ago. And he stops at nothing to reach that goal, just like "J.R.". He eventually gains control of "Ewing Oil" towards the end of the show, but in the film "Dallas: The Return of J.R." he sells the company back to "Bobby" in order to live with his former girlfriend, "Afton Cooper".
